UCO: LA or BUST!! The Experience of a Lifetime! (Part II)

The next day the blue team had to get up early one more time to head to the studio to pack up the cake to head to The Reagan National Library. One funny moment was all four of them walking out of the hotel room, me waking up out of a deep sleep as they were walking out of the door, and saying โ€œBYE LOSERSโ€ and everyone giggling. Ha They were headed to the studio to pack up the cake and drive it about 45 minutes to Simi Valley, CA to the Reagan National Library. Ric and I got up a little bit later, got ready and headed to Simi Valley also. We stopped at a store to buy some wine, so that we could have it with the winning team later that evening, as well as stopped for lunch. We had JUST gotten our lunch when Mom called to let us know that they were going to be introducing the cake a little earlier than they thought, like in 10 minutes. We were about 15 minutes away, so we had to rush to get to go boxes, get in the car and get there. When we arrived we thought there was NO way that we were going to be able to make it there for the introduction of the cake, because the Fourth of July event that they were hosting there was CROWDED. So, instead we worked our magic and told the guards that we needed to get up closer because we were with the TLC people. It worked. I jumped out of the car while Ric parked, and made it literally RIGHT when they were wheeling the cake out to introduce it. PHEW, I did NOT want to miss that. Ric made it in just a few minutes later, he missed them wheeling it out, but made it for the actual introduction.

They introduced the cake and Mom. I had been on the phone with Dad, so that he could hear all the commotion, since he wasnโ€™t able to be there. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ More screaming and clapping for Mom. Then we had to do to โ€œTake 2, 3 & 4โ€. (Iโ€™m not sure why they had to record it so many times. Haha) This is the part that we are missing on our home video that Ric had recorded at the event, as well as the video that I took on my camera, which is also missing. It is a mystery. . .I donโ€™t get how they could just be GONE. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Oh well, we have pictures, and the memories in our head. What an AMAZING experience! Nothing quite like it.

After they introduced it, the crowd got to eat some cake. (Not the actual cake that they built, but just some sheet cakes that they were serving.) Then Mom cut her cake, while the camera crew was on her again. After all that excitement was over, the rest of the group had to wheel Uncle Sam to the dumpster and Mom had to go straight back to the hotel with the camera crew for some MORE interviews. She said that she has never talked so much about herself in her whole life! Ha Then we toured the Library, saw some amazing views of Simi Valley and headed back to the hotel to meet up with Mom. Then we all went to do some shopping in Glendale, as well as dinner at Cheesecake Factory. We were all pretty much Zombies by then. The team was tired from all the work that they had done that weekend, and Ric and I were tired from all the activities that we had done that weekend! Back to the hotel to pack up (:() and then more hanging out and chatting for our last night together.

The next morning Ric transported the team (except Mom) to the airport and then came back. Then we all got up and got ready. This is what our room looked like from all the trash and stuff that we left for the cleaning lady (sorry!)!! haha
I’m sure she LOVED us!
Photobucket

Photobucket

This really was an experience of a lifetime!! Even if Mom does get called back (there is word on the street that this is a possibility), it just won’t be the same!! The awesome people that we met, the experience itself, the event afterwards, etc.

I have made lifelong friends from this experience as well. Steven and Ruth of course, but mainly Eric and Patty (Eric’s wife, who I met when they were here for the practice run a few weekends before the show). I talk to them on-line all the time, it is great getting to know them better, even if it isn’t in person. And, I’m trying SOOOO hard to get them to move back to the good ol’ State of Illinois! ๐Ÿ˜‰

DEFINITELY an experience of a lifetime!!!

UCO: LA or BUST! ~ The Experience of a Lifetime! (Part I)

Photobucket

Ricโ€™s trip started off on June 28th, Trishaโ€™s started on June 30th.
On June 27th, Ric went to Highland to load up Momโ€™s van and then spent the night at Mom and Dadโ€™s. Sunday morning he was on the road headed to CA. I talked to Ric a few times while he was on the road. He was definitely making good time. He made it to CA by Monday evening. My trip started bright and early on Tuesday morning. I had to be at the airport by 4:30 a.m. Our good friend Katie took me there. Hopped on the plane and was on my way. We had to make a pit stop in Atlanta. (Man, I hate that airport!) I was there for over 4 hours, plane was delayed a few times. Finally made it to CA around 2:30 p.m. Went to baggage claim to meet up with Ruth and Eric, while we waited for Mom to get there. While waiting at the airport for Mom we had only one celebrity sighting. It was Neal McDonough from Desperate Housewives. Ruth grabbed her camera to take a picture, zoomed in (we werenโ€™t too close) and took the picture. The flash flashed really bright, and while she was checking out the picture that she got, he looked over to us and just smiled and waved. He was so cute there hanging out at baggage claim with his wife and adorable kids. ๐Ÿ™‚

Mom finally arrived around 5:00 p.m.

She thought we were hilarious!

So yes, I spent more than 12 hours in the airport that day. NOT a fun day. All the while, Ric was enjoying the day at Venice Beach. He stopped at the airport to pick up some of our luggage, because all four of us (Mom, Ruth, Eric and I) werenโ€™t going to fit in the rental car with all of our luggage. Ric went back to the hotel to unload some things and Mom, Ruth, Eric and I went to get the rental car, and then head to the hotel. TLC put Mom and one of her assistants (two rooms) up in The Hilton. It was so pretty (even if they didnโ€™t have free WIFI). ๐Ÿ˜ฆ When checking in we requested joining rooms, which we got. So the boys (Eric, Ric and Steven (who wasnโ€™t there yet)) in one room and the girls (Mom, Ruth and I) in the other. Yes, that DID make for a FUN weekend. I have never laughed so much in my life! Haha

After unloading luggage, checking on the cold stuff in the cooler downstairs, etc., Ruth, Eric, Mom, Ric and I headed to dinner. We ate at a great restaurant just a few blocks down from the hotel. (We were in Glendale, CA at this point.) Dinner was great (canโ€™t remember the name of the restaurant) and then it was time to head back to the room. That night Mom had to make some sugar veil in the room. It was quite interesting โ€œcookingโ€ in a hotel room, with a โ€œtravel stoveโ€. We stayed up probably a little too late laughing and having a good time.

The next day Ric and I got up and did some touristy stuff (downtown Hollywood/LA), etc. Ric and I then had to head back to the room to pack up the van to get all the cake stuff to the studio.

(Lots of packing and unpacking throughout that weekend.) It was pretty neat getting to be in the studio. Seeing the โ€œremovable wallโ€ and stuff like that. Mom and her team were in the blue kitchen. (GO BLUE!)

They didn’t show it on the actual show, but the Blue Team did some actual welding on the set. Here is Eric’s welding helmet.
Photobucket

Then we left the team to finish up, while Ric and I finished our touristy stuff. While we were in Downtown LA we bought a map of the starsโ€™ houses. We could have taken a guided tour of these houses and such, but it was so much more fun and laid back doing it on our own. We saw all kinds of celebrity gates. Haha (The addresses lead us to a lot of gates, rather than houses, because of celebrities gating up their house.) It was when we were checking out Luci and Desiโ€™s old house that we came upon the house that Michael Jackson had just passed away in just one week prior to us being there. It was interesting. Memories, florals, people, etc., everywhere! After our tour (it started getting dark) we enjoyed dinner at Melโ€™s Drive-In and then headed back to the hotel to see how Team Blue was doing. Another late night spent talking and laughing.

The next day the blue team had to leave pretty early to do studio things. Ric and I decide that this day we would go to DISNEYLAND. AWESOME time! We were back REALLY late that night! The team snoozing by the time we got back from Disneyland.

The next day the blue team had to leave SUPER early to get to the studio to start filming. That day Ric and I went to Universal Studios. We had a great time there. Had dinner at Subway at the City Walk, and then headed back to the hotel. No one was there when we got back, so we got ready for bed. I fell asleep. It was only a few minutes later that the blue team called to let us know that they were ready to pack up the van and would like some help. Mom wasnโ€™t allowed to tell if she won or not, but it was at that moment that I found out that THEY WON!!! (I was the first one. . .well, Ric was, because he was on the phone with Mom, since I had fallen asleep.) What an awesome feeling. I really couldnโ€™t wait to get to the studio then. When we got there, the losing teams were destroying their cakes. So, no pictures of their cakes. Mom had to go back to the hotel with the recording team to do some interviews, while the rest of the blue team, Ric and I helped clean up the blue kitchen. Of course, I made my way around the studio to find the WINNING cake to take pictures of it. ๐Ÿ™‚

To be continued. . .

HI!

Dear Family, Friends, Whoeverreadsthisblog. . .

Yes, I am still alive. haha ๐Ÿ™‚

I was being lectured about updating my photography blog, so I did that, but failed to come back here to update this blog. I must warn you, this entry is probably going to be a little mumble-jumble, may not flow well, and will be pretty random. haha

So much going on right now. Weekends are gone, weekdays are pretty much gone also.

I have to admit that I’m pretty proud of myself, as well as Ric, with how well we are doing with the gym membership thing. Ric’s parents got us a Gold’s Gym membership for Christmas. I don’t think one week has gone by that we haven’t been there AT LEAST two days a week, this whole year. Most weeks, even three days a week. Ric even made it there a few times while he was in VA for three weeks. Yes, I must admit that, in the beginning I was doing SO well going at least 4-5 days a week, but right now, life has changed that. I try SO hard to at least go 3 times a week though.. ..that makes me happy enough! I even mentioned to Ric just last night, “Do you think your parents will get us gym memberships again this Christmas, since we have done so well with using it this year?” Gosh, I hope so!! It really isn’t in our budget, and knowing that we have that membership, MAKES me want to go. Right now my favorite class is Body Attack, which is on Wednesday evenings.

Man, I LOVE this class! We even have plans to go to dinner this Wednesday with a friend and her Mom, who is here from out of town, and I’m dreading having to miss it. Even trying to make the time later so that I can meet up with them after class, even if I am stinky and sweaty! haha ๐Ÿ™‚ LOVE it. . .love the feelings it gives me. I also love my Tuesday night class, Body Pump. Thursday nights is Body Step, which I have a love/hate relationship with. If I go on a Monday or Friday (going on Friday is a rare occasion), I don’t do a class, I do either weights or eliptical in the “theatre room”. GO ME!! ๐Ÿ˜€

So, the weekdays pretty much go like this.
Wake up, work, home for lunch, back to work, to the gym (classes start at 5:30, so have to drive fast to make it there, change and get to class on time), and then home for dinner and then back on the computer for some more work-time (photo editing).

September and October were/are pretty busy for me also, when it comes to the weekends. First weekend in Sept. I had a wedding, second weekend in Sept. I second shot a wedding, third weekend in Sept. I had a wedding on Friday and second shot a wedding on Saturday (busy weekend), and this coming weekend I have a wedding. Weddings, weddings, weddings. I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

October: First weekend I’m second shooting a wedding, second weekend Ric and I are making a trip to VA. (WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO – I can’t wait! I have never been there when it wasn’t FREEZING and snowing. Not sure what all we are going to do while we are there, but I know it will be a great time. One of the planned events is a house warming party for Ric’s Sister, which I know will be a ton of fun!) Third weekend I have a wedding and the fourth weekend is our annual Halloween Party/Scavenger Hunt. (Save the Date – it is a TON of fun!) Then, of course, the last weekend is Halloween. ๐Ÿ™‚

Add in there other miscellaneous photo shoots on Sundays, and I’m busy busy busy! ๐Ÿ™‚ It is GREAT. . .I love staying busy! (Can’t wait for that “vacation” to VA though. . .I’m going to need it!)

I know that I never returned to blog about our trip to LA. I just have had NO time. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I can talk about it now, so that is good! The main reason that we went out there was because my Mom was asked to come out there to shoot an episode of The Ultimate Cake Off. WOW, what an experience. I am going to have to make time to come back and give this experience its own entry. . .that would only be fair. I can tell you this, Mom’s show aired on September 14th, and SHE WON. $10,000.00. How awesome is that?!

Here is a photo that I took in the studio the night after the recording (it was nearly midnight).
Photobucket

This is a picture that TLC took in the studio. You can see the smoke coming out of the BBQ grill. (Again, a lot of detail that I have to write about later.)
Photobucket

Like I said, this experience needs an entry of its own, so check back later for that! ๐Ÿ™‚

Other than that, not much else going on. I’m going to be “well into my thirties” in less than a week. (31 on the 28th.)

Also my BFF has spent the last week in the hospital. She was admitted for a really high fever. She has Lupus, so it has something to do with that. She is HOPING to be discharged TODAY! My hopes for her discharge also. . .as I know that she has to be tired of being there (it has been exactly a week). Please say your prayers for Tonyjo (Tonya).

If you know me, you know I love pictures. . .I can’t just leave this post with only a few pictures, so I will post some pictures from some of the photography that I have done in the past few months. (Again, for more, check out my photography blog.)

Show Us Your Life ~ More Wedding Stuff

Today Kelly’s Korner’s blog trail is Reception and Honeymoon.

Reception
We got to the reception and I remember the one thing that I couldn’t wait to see was my wedding cake. It was a surprise from Mom. WOW, did she go above and beyond!!!

We had a fairytale theme.

We did toasts, first dances, the bouquet/garter toss, my Mom sang to me in front of everyone and we danced the night away!! We also had a video that was shown – everyone sat and watched and laughed/cried and had a great time! It was our love story. Pictures of us growing up and then stories about us that our videographer recorded just days before the wedding. ๐Ÿ™‚

Honeymoon
For our honeymoon we went on a Carnival cruise to the Caribbean. We stopped at San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. (Ironically I wore my St. Maarten shirt just today, actually.)

Our reception was over pretty late on 11/12. Then we stopped by an after-party at one of the groomsman’s hotel rooms. After that we headed to our hotel room to try to get a few hours of sleep. Luckily, our reception was in the same hotel that we stayed in that night. The next morning we had to get up BRIGHT and early. 4:00 a.m. came WAY too fast! Then we were in Ric’s parents’ rental car and were on our way to the airport.

Now, the honeymoon was a total surprise for me. Ric did all the paying and planning, so I had NO idea where we were going. He wouldn’t even tell people the night of the wedding, just so people wouldn’t spoil it for me. We were about 10 minutes into our drive to the airport when Ric asks me if I wanted to know where we were going. All I knew is that it was going to be “tropical”, just so I knew how to pack. I was anxious, so OF COURSE I was ready for him to tell me! SO he tells me that we’re flying into Miami and hopping on a cruise ship to head to the Caribbean. HEAVEN! ๐Ÿ™‚
Photobucket

Then we do just that; we get to the airport, fly to Miami, hop on the cruise ship and we’re ready to go.

One clear memory I have is calling my parents to tell them that I FINALLY know where I was going (they knew, but kept it a secret). This is when my Mom tells me that when I brought my dress to their hotel room early that morning, I also left my make-up bag with it. WHAT. . .I’m on my honeymoon and I don’t have my make-up?! No really, that was not really my reaction. It was more like, “OH well!” I’m not a big make-up person, so it really didn’t bother me. Once we were out in the ocean and the “shops” on the ship were able to open up, I just bought a few things, and then bought some at the Walgreens in San Juan. (Yes, there was a Walgreens, and we stopped into it, in San Juan. . .on our honeymoon. ha)

While in San Juan we just did a short shore excursion. We really weren’t there long and by the time we got there, it was dark anyway. More or less we just toured the area close to where the ship stopped. Then we walked around a little and ended up skipping dinner on the ship for dinner at a “hole-in-the-wall” burger joint in San Juan. It was tasty. Then it was back on the ship.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The next morning we woke up in St. Thomas. It was GORGEOUS. We started the morning off with a tour of the island as our shore excursion. After that shore excursion it was time for another one in St. Thomas. We went on a mini-boat tour to one of the small islands near St. Thomas. It was TONS of fun!!! It was about 12 mini-boats, two person per boat (so just Ric and I), that followed each other to the island. Ric was driving, I was passenger. When we got to the island, the tour guide asked how we were doing. I let him know that I was fine, but that I didn’t think that we hit enough waves on the way out there. He said, “Are you serious?! Usually the women are all crabbing because their backs hurt or something from hitting too many waves.” Heck, not me. I was enjoying hitting all the waves! We do our snorkeling and then it is time to get back so that we can get back to the ship to board. On the way back one of the other tour guides drives past us and waves us on to follow him. So we do just that, and he hits every wave that he can on the way back. It was SOOO much fun!

Photobucket

The next day was St. Thomas. We did another snorkeling tour on this trip, which was TONS of fun. Ric even turned Rastafarian on me. ๐Ÿ˜‰ haha

Show Us Your Life ~ Wedding Stuff

Yes, I’m still alive. ๐Ÿ™‚
I have some entries that I need to post, mainly about our California trip (yes, I realize I’m a little behind). BUT. . .here is a fun post for you to hold you over! ๐Ÿ˜€

I enjoy reading my new friend Randall’s blog often. She introduced me to Kelly’s Korner.

Every Friday Kelly does a “Show Us Your Life” blog trail.

This week: “Wedding Party and Wedding Flowers”.
(I may also incorporate a little of last week’s theme in there: “Your Wedding Dress”, since I discovered the blog a little late. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ )

Wedding Party
Ric and I had a pretty large wedding party. The wedding party consisted of:
Ric’s Side:
Timothy ~ Best Man (his brother)
Adam, Peter, Eddie, Katie (yes, he had a girl on his side) and Don ~ Groomspeople
Trisha’s Side:
Leah ~ Maid of Honor (my sister)
Amanda, Emily, Colleen, Tonya and Aimee ~ Bridesmaids
Mikey, Mike, Mike and Jason ~ Ushers
(One of these things is not like the other. haha)

We also had many children in our wedding:
Will ~ Jr. Groomsman
Cheyenne ~ Jr. Bridesmaid
Dakota ~ Ring Bearer
Carly ~ Flower Girl
Joseph ~ Mini-Groom
Madison ~ Mini-Bride
Jacob ~ Vow Keeper

And now for the pictures: Photos by Alisha of Lily Photography (now Alisha Clark Photographer)

Wedding Flowers
We had a ton of wedding flowers! A very good family friend of ours is Jeff of Grimm & Gorley. (How lucky are we?!) He is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚
There were only a few things that I cared about, and I let him take over on the rest. I DEFINITELY wanted Stargazer Lillies. That is my FAVORITE!! ๐Ÿ™‚

The wreath in front of the carriage has a special story. The February before we got married, my Grandmother passed away. I was sad that she wasn’t going to be able to be there for my special day. This wreath had real flowers on it, which was at her funeral (also done by Jeff). Afterwards Jeff brought the wreath back to the shop and worked on putting some “fake” flowers on it for the wedding. That way, when we get a house and have somewhere to hang it, it will be an everlasting memory of Nannie as well as our wedding! ๐Ÿ™‚
Photobucket

I also had some awesome sugar flowers on my cake, made by Mom, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wedding Dress
It took me a while to find a dress that I absolutely LOVED. I picked my wedding dress out in a magazine, but was not IN LOVE with it when I tried it on, so then tried on 153971 dresses on after that. Then, at one bridal store, one of the ladies helping us was talking about how Maggie Sottero would lengthen a train if you wanted it a little longer. Light bulb went on – “I wonder if my designer would do that.” So one day, I got on the phone with DaVinci to find out if they extended trains at the request of the person buying it. Low and behold they DO!! The End. . .my dream dress was then discovered. It was the dress I had loved from the beginning, just wished it had a longer train. SO, what do I do? Add 3 feet onto my train! ๐Ÿ˜€
It’s a DaVinci ~ and I STILL love it!! ๐Ÿ™‚
Long train!!

CA Rocks!

We’re home!! Well, we got home yesterday evening, but this is the first time I have had the chance to write! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, it was AWESOME. We had a great time. I met a few AWESOME people. It was an awesome experience. I don’t think there are enough words to describe it. Something that not a lot of people get to experience! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m not allowed to post pictures of anything in regards to Mom’s challenge. Not supposed to talk about it either. You’re going to have to tune into TLC sometime in September (tentatively on Sept. 28th) to watch. But, I’ll tell you this, it is going to be EXCITING!!!!! =D =D =D ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here is a little recap of our trip.
6/30: Trish up at 3:30 a.m. to get ready, head to airport (Katie takes me), wait for airplane. Get to GA, wait 4 hours for the nex plane. FINALLY arrive in LA around 4:30 p.m. LONG day in the airport! Get to airport, hang out with Ruth and Eric, who got there a few minutes before me to wait for Mom, Ric picks up our bags, Mom gets in, pick up rental car, check-in at Hilton, out to dinner.

7/1: Chinese Theatre and downtown LA, back to hotel, Steven arrives, load up van, drive to studio, unpack van, back to LA to the observatory, our own celebrity house tour, MJโ€™s house that he died in, etc., dinner at Melโ€™s Diner, back to hotel. Stayed up late laughing and having a good olโ€™ time.

7/2: Ric and Trish go to Disneyland and California Adventure all day โ€“ leave at 12:30 a.m. Everyone was asleep when we got back to the hotel.

7/3: Trish and Ric go to Universal Studios and Universal City Walk, dinner at Subway, Ric spills water all down the front of me and some worker sympathizes with him and says to me, “It was just an accident.” (ha) Mom and Team record their show all day. Around 11:00 we get back to hotel, get call from Mom that they need help cleaning and packing up. To studio at midnight to clean and pack up. Stayed up late laughing our booties off.

7/4: 4th of July event at Reagan National Library. I’m not allowed to talk anymore about this. I will write more about it in Sept. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ (It’s KILLING me not to be able to talk about it.)

7/5: Ruth, Steven and Eric leave early (Ric drives them 45 minutes to and from the airport). Ric comes back to sleep some more. Mom, Ric and I wake up, pack up the van and Mom leaves to return rental car and head to airport. Ric and I head to Venice Beach, hang out there most of the afternoon. Then we start driving home. Stay the night in Flagstaff, AZ.

7/6: Driving, driving, driving. Drive to Roswell, New Mexico to spend the night.

7/7: Tour Roswell, NM and the UFO Museum and Research Center. Driving, driving, driving. Spend the night in Oklahoma City, OK.

7/8: Driving, driving, driving. Arrive in Highland around 4:30 p.m. Unpack van, pick up Ricโ€™s car, drive to Belleville, grab some Jimmy Johns and go home. Phew.

I’ll be back later with some Disneyland, Universal Studios, etc. pictures later! ๐Ÿ™‚

L.A. – Here We Come!

So, my Mom is doing another cake challenge. I’m not allowed to talk much about it, because she signed papers. BUT, I can tell you this. She is filming in Los Angeles this time. My AWESOME Husband, the great guy that he is, offered to drive all my Mom and her assistants’ stuff to LA for them. He left bright and early this a.m. I heard from him about an hour ago, he has stopped in Amarillo, TX for the night. I’ll be leaving in a few days. I can’t wait to get there.

Unfortunately there isn’t a studio audience this time. I’m pretty much just going for the fun of it (and to keep Ric company until he has to drive all the stuff back). I’m actually driving back with him. Three days in a car together. . .we’ll see if we make it back without annoying the crap out of each other! LOL

***AIR DATE IS SEPTEMBER 28, 2009***
(Just so happens to be my birthday – awesome!)

Anyway. . .while we’re there, Ric and I are going to do some touristy stuff. I’m sure it is going to be pretty crazy in LA while we’re there, with all the deaths. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ We plan on going to Hollywood, LA, tours, and HOPEFULLY Disneyland.

We made the trip there with two of our friends (Peter and Amber) in 2004. We had a great time. We started in LA, then went to San Diego, then visited Ensenada, Mexico (which kinda sucked), and then back to LA. We had a great time.

I wasn’t able to find too many of the pictures from the 2004 trip, but thought I would post the ones that I did find to reminisce a little. ๐Ÿ™‚

(I’m bringing the “big bad” camera for this trip, so will definitely have a LOT better pictures to show off when we’re home!) ๐Ÿ™‚
