All about Peter. I’m sure a lot of people have heard us talk a lot about him, some know the story, some know parts of the story, but some don’t know anything about why he is so special.
It was June, 2001; Ric and I were moving into our new apartment in Belleville. Our apartment building has four separate apartments in the same building. As we were moving stuff in and getting our new apartment ready, we met a great guy named Peter. Peter lived in the apartment downstairs and diagonal from us. We hung out with him a few times when we first moved in, and then as time went on, we became the best of friends. There were countless evenings where Peter would come upstairs and bring his kitty Smokey, we would have dinner together, usually prepared by Ric, and Elvis, Jesse and Smokey would play together while we watched TV and visited. Spending this many countless hours with a person, brings you extremely close to a person. We did this for years, 2001-2009. I was always joking that if either one of us found a house to buy, we would have to buy a house with a house for sale next door, that we were never going to split up. We have so many good memories with Peter. Play dates with the kitties, countless dinner dates, 2003-trip to Hollywood/LA/San Diego, 2005-a Groomsman in our wedding, 2006-Barbie and the Rockers for Halloween (Peter was Ken), meeting so many awesome people through Peter [which we hope to not lose touch with, just because he is gone], getting to know Peter’s family (Mom and Dad Dahlstrom and his brothers), etc., etc., etc.
Let’s do some reminiscing! 🙂
This is going WAY back. The top picture is from one time when he stayed in IL for Easter (his family lives in Ohio) and went with us to my Grandma’s (I think 2002). The bottom picture is from one of my b-days at Dave N Busters (I think 2002).
Peter and I at the airport, the day that he came home from Iraq in 2008. We were lucky enough to get “orders” to go all the way to the gate to pick him up. This was right as he got off the plane. And, at that time, I was EXCITED for him to be home, after only three months. Not knowing that he was going to be leaving us for three YEARS in just under a year. 😦
Halloween – 2008
For the 2008 Scavenger Hunt, one of the photo items was a group photo holding a sign that said “We will miss you Peter.” Because we knew that in 2009 he would be in Germany and would miss Halloween 2009. 😦
Peter is in the Air Force band, he plays the French Horn. In approximately June of 2008 we were given the news that Peter was chosen to go to Germany. We were sad, I cried a lot, and I was in denial that he was going to be leaving us. For those next 6 months together, we spent as much time with him that we could, while at the same time tried hard not to spend too much time with him, growing apart a little bit, so that we could get used to the fact that he was leaving us. Then it was time to say good-bye. 😦
On January 10th (2009) we had Peter’s going away party. It was a great time with great friends. The host and hostess (Matt and Shawna) made some soups, some people brought soups (including Ric’s cheese/beer soup) and we had TONS of other types of foods as well. It was a great time, for a sad occasion.
Barbie and the Rockers and Charlie and his angels, in normal everyday clothes – ha. Aimee, Trisha, Tonya and Peter.
There is Christi (Gimpy). Christi is actually an awesome person that we would have never met if it weren’t for Peter. She is also in the Air Force Band – playing percussion. We are excited that Christi is going to be moving into Peter’s old apartment, so now we STILL have an awesome neighbor! 🙂
Now they are not being so “normal.” They were looking up “naked tubaists” on-line. (This came about because they were talking about “naked pianists”, and Matt says “Why aren’t there ever any “naked tubaists”??? Don’t worry, they didn’t have any luck finding any. haha)
On January 12th Ric, Christi and I took Peter to the airport bright and EARLY in the morning, and had to say good-bye. It is going to be a LONGGGG three years, I already miss him!! 😦
